A Follower Fishes

A photo I took from over Haiti shows how even the tiniest of vessels can cast a large net into what looks to be an overwhelming ocean. It is easy to feel overwhelmed in our oceans of people and work. Our oceans don’t look the same from day to day. Storms and problems with the vessel itself can make us want to steer to shore and delaying us dropping our nets. The great truth is whatever the state of your ocean, whether it is turbulent or still as glass you are equipped to navigate it even as you lay out your gospel nets and hooks of peace.

There is in fact no excuse for fisher’s of men to go a day without casting even one hook into our ocean. Mt 4:19 explains why it may not be happening in your life. Jesus says, “Follow Me and I’ll make you fishers of men…” What equips us and gives us the confidence to navigate the oceans of evangelism is Jesus. When we aren’t following him don’t expect to have any fishing expeditions. All you’ll have are “fish stories”.

Take hope; maybe yesterday you weren’t following and the day before that, but today doesn’t have to be that way. Want to know how to know if you are a fisher of men? Can you see a net or a hook from your life vessel dangling in your ocean? In that glance off the bow of your vessel you’ll have your answer. Choose to follow Jesus and start fishing today. Whatever your ocean, God has pre-ordained the those around you to be ready for your nets. Trust in the timing your vessel is in your ocean and faithfully cast your nets.
