A mind stirred from Forgotten 2 Peter 3
Ever forget something you shouldn’t have? Ever forget something you never wanted to forget? At the start of 2 Peter I think the church may have been acting like they forgot something. It is a reminder to me that we need to have people and systems in our life to stir up our minds.
2 Peter 3:1 this is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder. “
So what was the first letter? He wrote 1 Peter. He’s reminding them of a prior letter. Did you forget the last letter i sent you? I can see them standing around looking at each other – “First letter, first letter? who picked up the mail last time? Did you pay our post office box deposit last month? ”
We are forgetful. King Solomon even said so In Ecclesiastes 1:11. Here, Peter is reminding them of his love for them and God’s love for them in calling them “beloved”. Then he turns and says, I just want to give you a reminder, I want to “stir your mind”. He’s not trying to influence, entertain or convict, he’s just stirring their minds. Honestly, if we don’t want to listen, we won’t. It’s like a seed landing on hard ground. Peter is like, look, “ibid” this in your reticular activating system so you don’t lose it. I just want to stir your mind. Sometimes we don’t need a grand new start or to learn a new methodology . Sometimes we just need someone or something to stir our mind out of forgetfulness and apathy.
1. Do you have someone to stir your mind? Who is that person in your life who will stir you when you get stagnant? If you don’t have that person find someone. Join a small group, get involved with a ministry team. Spend some quality time with your family and do something you haven’t done in some time.
2. What books are you reading to keep your mind stirred? Great authors can stir our imagination and remind of things we may have forgotten. If you’re not reading a book right now, maybe you should. A good one to start with is the Bible. Not only is it history of revelation it is living revelation. So, it will not only stir your mind of something you may have forgotten, but it will empower you to accomplish it.
3. Are you getting enough exercise or are you allowing laziness and TV and video games to induce a catatonic state? Exercise affects the brain on multiple fronts. It increases heart rate, which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It also aids the bodily release of a plethora of hormones, all of which participate in aiding and providing a nourishing environment for the growth of brain cells and fighting fatigue and laziness. Find a Peter who will get you up off the sofa and do something active.
In case you have forgotten you are a child of God. You are redeemed. You are a conqueror. You are beautiful! Isn’t good to have someone remind us of the truth, even if we’ve never met?

Thanks, Bill. The last two paragraghs are written twice. Thanks for the reminder. I did not exercise today (unless cleaning 2 bathrooms, a guest room and a dining room can count for exercise!)
